Huawei P20

The photography game has changed…
Huawei have finally announced their hotly anticipated new flagship mobile device, the P20 and P20 Pro, and I was lucky enough to be invited along to Paris to join them for the launch.
There were so many rumours about this device, with a lot of buzz online, and the results do not disappoint. The event itself was dubbed ‘See Mooore’, with a notable use of three os in the word mooore, and a strong focus (pun intended) on photography.
During the morning, selected members of the press, and a small group of Huawei Key Opinion Leaders, that I was a member of, were given a prelaunch lifestyle briefing ahead of the main launch event at the Grand Palais in the afternoon.
First things first, the P20 is GORGEOUS. The device I saw was in ‘twilight’, which is essentially a graduated colour scheme and it’s stunning. Get under the hood and things get a hell of a lot more impressive.
Here’s the initial specs:
Two models, the P20 and P20 Pro
Available in standard and two graduated colour choices; twilight and rose
3 cameras: 40mp colour, 20mp monochrome, and 8mp telephoto with 3 x optical zoom and a total of 5 x zoom with digital
Once again, a Leica partnership for the lenses
Colour temperature sensor built in for ambient light, which will give true to life images
10mp default image size for lowlight quality
Slow motion mode; 960 fps at 720p
Night time handheld mode which uses an exposure of up to six seconds, using AI to give pin sharp images
AI to assist with photography. Object recognition and scene setting
The Pro gets the 4000mha battery that the Mate 10 Pro has
FaceUnlock
Full details of the device will be coming after the launch, and I get a chance to have a good play. Initial feelings are, this is going to be a game changer.
